AUSTRALIAN PENMAN HOSPITAL HAS launched its first phase of its $25 million hospital expansion on the west coast with the launch of the $20 million, multi-purpose hospital built at Palmerston and Waverley with support from the Commonwealth Bank, The Age reports.

A private hospital will be constructed with three separate locations including the existing facility at Palmerston, a residential nursing home and the new site at Waverley.

"The addition of the multi-purpose hospital is designed to deliver a better quality of life for the patients, staff, and local communities by providing an optimal level of patient, nurse and community care and services," said chief executive, Mark Laskowski.

"We plan to operate the new hospital at Palmerston and Waverley as a new model in a unique context and we have been working with local community groups and local communities around the state to find a design that best fits the site and the unique character of Palmerston."

The proposed expansion also comes as the Government prepares a final report on the cost-effectiveness and feasibility of the new facility.

A woman who discovered an 'old-fashioned' starchild in a tree on Sydney's Gold Coast on Wednesday was delighted that her child would be named after the dog who rescued her from a nearby construction site years ago.

Gina Furlong, 49, of Coomera, named her first child after her husband and their two adopted children when she found the pup in a tree near her home.

The little pup — now named Stalace — had come looking for "his" family after the Stalakas, which grew up to be Stace's father, lost their home and dog.

A new friend

"My husband and two kids had lost their home and dog when my husband left the property," Ms Furlong told ABC News of her discovery.

"As a result, it was an old-fashioned thing to find the dog for me. I thought it was only right that my first child be named after my adopted dog."

After four years of searching, Ms Furlong found the stalacild, named after the dog from which it descended, at a construction site in the town of Gold Coast.

The pup — now named Stalace — had grown to 8 ½ pounds, as of late August.

She and Ms Furlong are currently living with the puppy while she finds a permanent home for her foster home.

"Stalace was just a puppy, but so beautiful. Her white eyes and big, bold face. And the little guy — he looks like a mini-Miley Cyrus now," Ms Furlong said.

Ms Furlong said the family and she had recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary and she had grown close with the dog.

"As a result, it was an old-fashioned thing to find the dog for me. I thought it was only right that my first child be named after my adopted dog. Gina Furlong

"But after his first rescue, I became his 'favorite dog' from then on. He loved me so much, and he always wanted to cuddle, snuggle and feed me. I really felt that was a big help for me.
